Exciting News about Hypnobabies Classes in Louisiana

Hypnobabies classes are expanding!

Soon, Deep Waters Birth Services will be offering Hypnobabies classes in the New Orleans area. In order to be able to serve both Baton Rouge and New Orleans, we will be offering classes just once per quarter in each location.

What does this mean for you?

If you are in the Baton Rouge area and expecting a baby with a due date of April 2017 or earlier, you will want to enroll in the December 2016 class series because the next class series will be too close to your due date.

If you are in the New Orleans or Northshore area, you can travel to our Baton Rouge classes or request a private class in your home. We hope to have classes up and running in the New Orleans area for due dates of June 2017 and later.

FAQ Series Part 3: Is Hypnosis Compatible with my Faith?

FAQ Series Part 3: Is Hypnosis Compatible with my Faith?

One of the main issues I had to work through when I began my journey to becoming a Hypnobabies instructor was whether or not my faith allowed for the use of hypnosis. I had been told all my life that hypnosis was an invitation for evil spirits to take over one's mind.

However, once I began to understand what hypnosis really is - and isn't - and I studied what the scriptures actually say about it, it became clear to me that hypnosis is a wonderful tool that works beautifully with my faith.

My personal faith encourages me to constantly purify my thoughts. Hypnosis is one way to do this intentionally. My faith also urges me to "fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." (source). Again, I can do all of these intently and resolutely through self-hypnosis.

I find that most of the resistance to hypnosis stems from a misunderstanding of what hypnosis actually is. Hypnosis is NOT handing over control of one's mind to someone else. Hypnosis IS using a relaxed state of mind and body (such as what one experiences daily through activities like falling asleep, driving a car, praying, and watching television) to affect positive and purposeful change in one's belief system, leading to positive outcomes.

Hypnosis is very similar to meditation, and most religions recognize and promote the practice of meditation - without reservation. If someone feels that their faith prohibits hypnosis, he or she should never watch tv, listen to the radio, read books, pray, daydream, or meditate, because these activities all induce an "altered" state of mind, which is actually measurable through EEG machines.

In Hypnobabies, we learn to recognize and release the negative beliefs we have about childbirth, then replace those beliefs with more positive ones. This leads to a more enjoyable pregnancy and birth, and has even been life-changing for some students! FAQ Series Part 2: Does my Partner Need to Come to Class?

Yes.

Your partner should come to as many Hypnobabies classes as possible. We have special information, tracks, and roles just for them. Students who cannot bring their partner may bring another trusted family member, friend, or doula. Although it's perfectly possible to use the program successfully without a support person, it's best if at least one person who will be present during the birth be able to attend the classes so they know best how to support the birthing mother. (I will say that I've heard of the occasional mom who rocks out with Hypnobabies completely on her own, and that's great too!)

Don't Worry. Partners Love Hypnobabies.

Many partners feel understandably trepidatious about birth in general, and may be hesitant to make a decent investment into a childbirth education class. However, Hypnobabies proves to be invaluable to partners, and gives them solid, easy, reliable ways to assist the birthing mother. Even the most skeptical of birth partners are soon won over, often during the first class. In fact, partners usually end up being huge cheerleaders for Hypnobabies!

I often get asked what is the ideal time to take our group Hypnobabies classes. Ideally, the 6 week class series should be finished by the 36th week of pregnancy, but there's really no such thing as taking the class "too early." I've had students register for class as soon as they got a positive pregnancy test! It just means they get more time to practice and enjoy the relaxing hypnosis tracks, which can make for a more comfortable pregnancy as well as birthing.

For those who register for Hypnobabies after July 21, 2016, our group class price will be increasing. We have three upcoming class series currently open for enrollment, perfect for babies due this fall or winter:

July 28 - September 1

September 8 - October 13

October 20 - December 1

With Hypnobabies, as soon as you register and submit the class deposit, you get to start enjoying some of the tracks right away while you wait for your class series to begin. Reserve your space now, and lock in your price before it increases!

So...You're Going to Hypnotize my Baby???

So...You're Going to Hypnotize my Baby???

Well, no.

And I won't hypnotize YOU, either. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, meaning that you will not receive suggestions that you do not wish to receive. Hypnosis is simply a state of mind in which a person is more open to suggestion, and can access the subconscious mind on purpose. We all experience this state of mind every single day. Daydreaming is a good example of how powerfully your mind can create vivid experiences!

Why should I take Hypnobabies?

This class covers just about everything you need to know about childbirth, PLUS teaches medical-grade hypnosis tools for comfort. The classes are engaging and fun, and are held at the beautiful Birth Center of Baton Rouge. It's the ONLY class you need to prepare for your baby's birthing.

How does hypnosis work?

Our experiences are usually a direct result of our expectations. We form our expectations based on our belief systems about a certain subject. In our culture, most of us have negative expectations about childbirth, based on what we've seen on television or heard from friends and family. We believe that childbirth is inherently scary and painful.

Hypnosis uses the design of your conscious and subconscious mind to purposefully change your belief system to be more positive. Then, your expectations and subsequently your experience will be better!

The main tool that you will learn is medical-grade hypnoanesthesia, which will transform the sensations of birth from pain and burning, to pressure and stretching.

A side benefit is that hypnosis promotes deep relaxation, which we know helps with birthing.

But does it really work?

It really does! Around 90% of Hypnobabies students have reported easier, more comfortable births. Some have even reported experiencing no pain at all, without the use of pain medications. Just look on YouTube; there are some pretty incredible videos showing Hypnobabies students having their babies - calmly, peacefully, and often extremely joyfully!
