I'm Amy Willson, the owner of Louisiana Baby Company.
I am a birth and postpartum doula and childbirth educator who helps new and expectant parents to do the hard work of pregnancy, birth, and early parenting, knowing they are supported 100%. I stand by you so you don't have to be alone when you face important, big decisions, suss through finding your parenting values and voice, and deal with anywhere from normal pregnancy aches and pains to serious complications that change the best-laid plans.
I’ve always been interested in pregnancy, birth, and babies. As a college student, I would read books on pregnancy and breastfeeding in my spare time and loved to hear my friends’ birth stories.
When I had my first baby, I had no idea what a doula was. I didn’t take any classes, just read a lot of books and decided to bare-knuckle my way to the birth I wanted. Yeah, that didn’t work out so well. I felt like such a burden to my team. Having to ask for things like a drink of water or for someone to come clean up after me (birth has lots of fluids!) was embarrassing. I felt so awkward and out of place.
For my second birth, I hired a doula. It was game changing! Having someone in the room whose sole purpose was to comfort and encourage me helped to heal the negative memories I had from that first birth, where I didn’t feel so supported. My doula helped me to feel dignified, well-taken-care-of, and pampered.
After that birth, I decided I wanted to be a part of that support system for others, and now I can't imagine doing anything else!
I’m like a trusted friend who happens to be an expert in pregnancy, birth, and babies.
I listen to your struggles and joys without interjecting my opinions or unwarranted advice. I validate your concerns and believe your experience. I bolster you and encourage you when you feel like you’re failing.
My clients love that I’m the one person they don’t have to be “on” for. They don’t have to entertain me, worry about my emotional state, worry about offending me, worry about being too needy. They trust me with their vulnerabilities and insecurities.
You may be overwhelmed by all there is to research and learn during pregnancy to prepare for birth, breastfeeding, and caring for a newborn.
You may have already had your baby and are wondering if there is such a thing as a fairy godmother for new parents. (Good news: there is!)
Maybe you have dozens of opinions thrown at you by friends and family about how you should birth your baby, feed your baby, diaper your baby, sleep your baby, carry your baby, parent your baby, and on and on. This choir of advice may be drowning out your own voice and values.
I’m not here to add one more opinion to your life. I will help you slow down and listen to that voice inside yourself that is whispering your own values and priorities. Together, we can craft a flexible plan that works for you.
I show up for my clients wholeheartedly. Through lots of personal development, I have intentionally fostered empathy, compassion, and a dedication to the well-being of those around me. Clients love my consistent, responsive, kind presence with a plentiful helping of experience and expertise for those tough questions all parents have.
Birth clients value my attentiveness, my calming presence, my comforting touch, and my diplomacy in facilitating communication among the birth team. They treasure the strength I lend them when they feel they can’t go on, how I fit in seamlessly with the family members present, and my steadfast support when plans change. They feel bolstered, encouraged, and heard.
Postpartum clients appreciate my help with optimizing household efficiency, troubleshooting baby sleep issues, strategizing how to make life easier with multiples, and planning for nutritious meals. They feel like they can actually manage this overwhelming time in life with grace and ease, even when things are challenging!
